Reaching the Lost, Equipping Believers, and Sending Disciples for the glory of God!

Annie Walker Armstrong (1850-1938)

Annie Armstrong is perhaps best known for her love of Jesus Christ as well as her strong dedication and support of missionaries around the world.  Her work and dedication in support of mission efforts resulted in the Woman's Missionary Union being formed in 1888.   Annie herself was the first corresponding secretary, and in the year 1893, she personally typed and hand wrote nearly 18,000 letters!

Though we live in a much faster paced and technologically advanced world than Annie Armstrong knew, it seems downright impossible that we could send 18,000 letters or emails out single-handedly.  However, there are things that we as Christians can do to support our missionaries and the work they do.   First and foremost, we can pray.  We often underestimate the power of prayer and the effect it has on those we are praying for.  Romans 12:12 tells us to rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and continue steadfastly in prayer.  Paul says in Philippians 4:6 "Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving; let your requests be made known to God."  Paul also asks for prayers on his behalf in 1 Thessalonians 4:2-3 saying, "2Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; 3meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains."  Our missionaries work hard to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ all across the world, including North America.  Many of the people they minister to have never heard the gospel before, and without these missionaries, some may have never come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  Often times our missionaries put themselves in harm's way so that others may come to know Christ.  We should always remember them when we bow our heads in prayer to the Lord, praying for both their safety and being thankful for their hard work and sacrifice.
